Rewiring Australia

Sixty percent of Australia’s emissions are domestic and the largest portion of domestic emissions are our households (42.4%). These come from everyday decisions made by households, like the food we eat, how we heat our spaces or travel to work. Almost all of these emissions come from the machines in our daily lives (i.e. petrol cars, gas heaters, gas water heaters, gas stoves, etc), and the fossil fuel power plants attached to Australia’s electricity grid.

  • The average Australian household emits 15 to 20 tonnes of carbon dioxide annually. This is about three times the global average.
  • Car use is a major contributor to household emissions, accounting for about 34% of emissions.
  • Water heating is another major contributor to household emissions, accounting for about 16% of emissions.

Here's what our region could achieve:

  • $4,430 Average household savings per year on energy and vehicle costs by 2030.
  • $305,000,000 Total household savings per year across your electorate by 2030.
  • 1,870 jobs Direct and indirect jobs created from community savings and installation work.
  • 100% Reduction in household energy emissions.
